The State Textile and Industrial Museum in Augsburg

A hands-on museum for the whole family

On January 20, 2010, Bavaria's Minister of Science, Dr. Wolfgang Heubisch, opened the State Textile and Industrial Museum in Augsburg (TIM). Since then, visitors are able to experience 2,500 square meters of history first-hand. The exhibitions involve people whose lives radically changed the industrial age. The visitors can get acquainted with the history of workers and influential businessmen or bankers.

1000 square meters

The Museum offers even more: on the upper floor is 1,000 square meters of space for special events. In addition to changing exhibitions, the room is also suitable for business fairs, fashion shows, readings and concerts. A high quality, robust and flexible exhibition wall system was sought for these different requirements.

The decision was made to use Mila-wall due to it's design flexibility and fast set up. The aluminum framework, which protects the wall elements during set up and dismantling, (especially at the corners) was crucial. The wall proved itself when first used in the great exhibition "charm & shame".

The 1,000 sqm space could be logically zoned using the wall. The exhibition design was in hands of the Munich based designer Erich Hackel. Based on his floorplan, the exhibition was realized in just two days, using Mila-wall. In all, nearly 200 wall elements were used.

After installation, the seams between the individual modules were no longer visible. The resulting large uniform surfaces highlight the exhibit very well.

Conversion of an exhibition

In this time-lapse video you can see very well how easy and fast the reconstruction of the exhibition and the redesign of the museum was. The time with Mila-wall is also exemplary when it comes to sustainability: almost all wall elements and a total of over 75% of the elements are also used in the new exhibition.
